StatementSince childhood I’ve been immersed in nature, raised in its adoration and respect. I learned to enjoy hiking, marvel at thunderstorms, identify animal scatt, uncover crawly things from hidden pockets under decomposing logs, explore streams as though the pebbles in their beds were priceless jewels. Child me spent countless hours tenderly constructing tiny abodes of twigs and mud in my backyard, for an array of plastic miniature figurines of big cats, dinosaurs, and horses. A great deal of my childhood was also filled by self-engineered crafts. I created swaths of little creatures and habitats out of whatever I could get my hands on. Always, my creations were rooted in the stories and fairytales shared by those close to me.
The art I create exists to share and explore my personal experiences with subjects such as imagination, fantasy, literature, meditation, wonder, and personal relationship to being in nature. I’m interested in exploring these themes in their ability to create escape and reprieve, as well as exploring the beneficial and destructive relationships society has with escapism in everyday life.
