Latin American diaspora refers to the cultural and physical displacement of Latin American immigrants around the world. Roughly 1 in 10 Latinos live the Latino American diaspora in the United States (Hispanic economics). As a second-generation Latina, I've spent my life dealing with cultural estrangement and an urge to whiteness. In trying to assimilate into the standard American life, I've neglected my cultural and ethnic background. I photographed objects that have allowed me to connect to my Salvadoran roots while being raised in the USA. As I'm in the process of reconnecting and learning about my culture, I wanted to create an homage for my culture without appropriating or reinforcing harmful stereotypes and narratives about El Salvador. These still life's are also meant to show the beauty of El Salvador and elevate the status of the country which is deemed as "third world".
